Funny how some of the simplest songs you never understand until something profound happens around them. I starting writing this in 1990ish when my friend Nick moved back home to New Jersey. I finished it years later. When I received the rough draft of this CD I got to play it for my father-in-law, who just happened to have a PhD in music and taught me half of what I know about medieval music. He said how much he liked this piece. A week later he passed away after his long and courageous battle with cancer. Months later I was sitting and playing this piece to myself when I realized that it was really written for him. Many of our friends and family have described his death as a homecoming for him. I think of him whenever I play it.
